The Word of God
Our key ministry emphasis is a commitment to clear and solid Bible teaching and preaching. We firmly believe in the absolute sufficiency of the Word of God to minister every need man has (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). Therefore, we are committed to verse-by-verse expository preaching that unleashes God's transforming truths to our hearts and lives. We will not manipulate the Bible to make it say what we want it to say or to what seems most popular among people today. Instead, our desire is allow God to share His message with us through the faithful and uncompromised preaching and teaching of His Word. If you have a spiritual hunger to know and understand God's Word and thirst for a deeper, intimate walk with the Lord, Westview could be the church for you!
The Gospel of God
We are committed to faithfully proclaiming the true biblical gospel of grace. We will not water down the message of the gospel to be more appealing to people by failing to address the biblical issues of God's holiness, man's sinfulness, God's wrath and judgment against sin, the substitutionary death of Christ that alone pays the penalty for our sins or the need of man to turn from sin to God by confessing Christ as both Lord and Savior. Although hearing about man's sin and God's judgment is unpopular today, we believe people need to hear the bad news before they can truly know and appreciate the good news of God's saving and undeserved grace. We believe God has called us to follow Christ, not simply to believe that He died in our place. As John Calvin said, "Faith alone saves, but saving faith is never alone." Saving faith is always followed by a true and living faith.
The Glory of God
Our primary concern in ministry is the glory of God rather than the felt needs of man. Being overly concerned with "what people want" can result in a church becoming more man-centered than God-centered. We want Westview Bible Church to be focused upon the Lord, not upon us. We are committed to maintaining a high view of God. He is much more than a spiritual friend or an emotional therapist to turn to whenever we have a problem. He is our Creator and Sovereign Lord deserving of the highest praise, the greatest obedience and the most sacrificial service. Being a loving church that seeks to minister to people's genuine needs is important. However, we believe that our greatest concern should never be, "What pleases the most people?" but instead should be, "What is most pleasing to the Lord?".
The Worship of God
We want people of all ages to worship the Lord in a meaningful way. Some churches have chosen to discard traditional hymns in favor of the sole use of contemporary music for worship. While, we appreciate their desire to reach a new generation with the message of Christ, we are committed to using both traditional hymns and contemporary songs in order to provide a meaningful worship experience for young and old alike. We want all of God's people to be able to express their praise and worship to God, not just the young among us. We believe it is important for God's people to concerned about the worship experience of others in the church family, not merely their own.
We believe the great hymns of the faith not only minister to the hearts of older members, but also possess strong messages of faith that can enrich the lives of young believers as well. We love and appreciate the rich musical heritage God has given to His Church. Upon hearing the complaint of a young man who said that traditional hymns didn't do anything for him, a discerning pastor responded, "Since when was worship about you?" His response was designed to help this young man get his eyes off of himself and upon the exaltation of God. He understood that worship should be centered on the Lord and His glory, not upon us and how we feel. Hymns like "Amazing Grace," "Great is Thy Faithfulness," "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "How Great Thou Art" are examples of a legacy of music that places God, not us, at the center of our worship. We also appreciate and rejoice in new songs that maintain that same focus in worship, songs like, "Before the Throne of God Above," "In Christ Alone," "Shout to the Lord," "I Will Glory in My Redeemer".
God wants all of His children, both young and old, to have a place to offer Him worship and praise. Regardless of your age, we hope you will find Westview a place to grow, a place to worship, a place to belong.
